Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA)
To plan and implement housing schemes, the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) was established by Presidential Ordinance on July 12, 2019. Tariq Bashir Cheema, the federal minister for housing and works, serves as the organization’s chairman. Waseem Hayat Bajwa serves as the FGEHA’s director general.
Additionally, the FGE Housing Authority is a self-financing entity and does not receive funds from the government’s general revenue. Hence, the FGE Housing Authority lacks the funds it needs to purchase land in advance. Therefore, when housing plans are launched or announced, a down payment is taken from its members. The money collected will use as a down payment on raw land. Moreover, the remaining land cost pays after receiving installments from allottees.
History of FGEHA
In 1989, a cell inside the Ministry of Housing & Works was established as the Federal Government Employee Housing Authority (formerly known as the FGE Housing) Foundation. Later, on March 26, 1990, it was registered as a Public Limited Company under the Companies Ordinance, 1984, with the Pakistani Security and Exchange Commission. Through an ordinance that the President issued on July 12, 2019, the former Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation has been renamed the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority. Later, on January 15, 2020, the Parliament approved the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority Act.
FGEHA Mission
The FGE Housing Authority (FGEHA) offers excellent, safe, and affordable accommodation to qualifying federal government employees in Pakistan’s major cities. Moreover, the housing authority offers families housing options and opportunities while also collaborating with the public and private sectors. Lahore Smart City also offers safe and secure environment to its residents.
Purpose of FGEHA Establishment
The purpose of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority is to plan and develop housing schemes for active and retired federal employees as well as other designated groups of people as decided by the Authority from time to time. In addition, the Authority strives to ensure that each of these individuals has a home at the time of retirement or earlier, as well as for his dependents in case of his death before retirement, on the terms that the Authority may decide.
To create, launch, sponsor, and implement housing schemes on an ownership basis in Islamabad, the provincial capitals, and other significant Pakistani cities for federal government employees who are now employed and retired, as well as for other specified groups of individuals as decided from time to time by the Authority.
In a broader sense, the authority is assisting the government in reducing the number of unsheltered families in the whole country, particularly among public sector workers. Based on merit, the authority helps the staff members acquire homeownership at the time of retirement or earlier.
